Islington Assembly Hall – June 11, 2015
Early doors and The Goat Roper Rodeo Band brought a slice of the Deep South, via North Wales, to Islington. Alternately mellow and stomping, the trio shared the vocals on country-rock tracks such as Tombstone and Oh, Joanna.
Next up was Michele Stodart, formerly of The Magic Numbers. A stripped down set made much of Michele’s strong vocals, tinged with an air of regret and neglect. Highlights included Foolish Love and the serene presence of guest star, Raevennan Husbandes.
If there were any nerves about playing to a packed crowd at the Islington Assembly Hall, you wouldn’t know it from the way Danny and The Champions of The World came storming out. Owning the stage without missing a beat, they proved that their compelling brand of rock’n’ roll and rocking soul translates effortlessly to larger venues. Relishing support from friends and family alike, they played old-favourites like Henry The Van alongside tracks from their new album, What Kind of Love. This band knows where they’ve been and where they’re going, and can’t wait to take us along for the ride. Definitely not to be missed if they come to your town: dannyandthechamps.com/tour-dates
