Billy The Kid

The Black Heart, London
26 November, 2014

Less than two months after Billy The Kid’s headline show at The Black Heart in Camden, she was back at the same venue with her friend and fellow Canadian, Matt Goud, lead singer of the headline band Northcote.

You would have been forgiving for thinking that Billy was headlining, though, given the crowd’s reaction.  She made a point of playing older songs following requests, and the fans sang along with every word, no matter how obscure. Billy seemed amazed and humbled that people people from half a word away had taken her into their hearts, and in return she rewarded them with a heartfelt performance. Particular highlights included This Sure as Hell Ain’t My Life, a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s Atlantic City, and her turn on drums during the solo portion of Northcote’s set.

Do yourself a favour and catch her when she’s next back in London, on the bill with Frank Turner and Billy Bragg at XFM’s Winter Wonderland gig on December 17 at O2 Academy Brixton.
